US Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) is currently selecting more H-1B registrations for the FY2021 cap through November 16, 2020.

The agency has opened a second selection period because it did not receive enough H-1B cap petitions during the initial filing period from April 1, 2020 through June 30, 2020. The quota for FY 2021 H-1B cap petitions is 85,000.

USCIS is beginning to issue email notifications on new H-1B registrations chosen for the initial registration period this past spring. Applicants can login to their USCIS accounts online to check the status of their H-1B registration. Employers whose applications are chosen during the new selection period have until November 16, 2020 to file petitions for their selected H-1B registrations. Employers do not need to take additional actions to be considered for the second round of lottery selections. Applications will be selected from the original pool of H-1B registrations that were filed in March 2020 but not selected during the first lottery.

USCIS has not yet released details on the number of additional registrations that it will select in the August-November lottery. However, the agency is expected to release additional details through an official announcement soon.
