Key Points

  • China began issuing Mainland Travel Permits to permanent residents of Hong Kong and Macao on July 10, 2024

Overview

As of July 10, 2024, the government of China began issuing Mainland Travel Permits to permanent residents of Hong Kong and Macao. The Exit and Entry Administration will issue the permit, which allows for multiple entries. It is valid for five years and will enable holders to stay a maximum of 90 days per visit.

This initiative aims to strengthen the integration between the mainland and the Special Administrative Regions of Hong Kong and Macao, promoting greater mobility and fostering closer economic and social ties. By simplifying travel procedures and providing extended stay options, the government hopes to encourage more frequent and prolonged visits, thereby boosting tourism, business interactions, and cultural exchange.
