Key Points

  • Taiwan launched a new conditional online portal for renewing passports on September 3, 2024

Overview

The authorities of Taiwan will launch a trial “conditional online application for passport renewal” service starting September 3, 2024, to enhance passport renewal convenience. Eligible applicants can use a “Natural Person Certificate” to apply for a new passport online from home.

After completing the online payment, they can pick up their new passport in person at the Consular Affairs Bureau or other authorities’ offices 14 working days later by bringing their national ID card and receipt.

The new system aims to simplify the application process, reduce wait times, and streamline administrative procedures. Based on the trial period’s success, the authorities will review the eligibility criteria for this service and expand it to a broader audience in the future. Applicants are advised to ensure that their Natural Person Certificate is up to date and valid before initiating the online renewal process to avoid delays.
