Key Points

  • Thailand introduced new exemptions for foreign nationals holding specific job titles

Overview

The government of Thailand announced that it now exempts foreign nationals holding the titles of president, chief executive officer, chairman, or managing director from the age and experience requirements previously needed for work permits in Thailand’s Board Of Investment (BOI) approved companies.

New requirements for engineers and those in digital technology roles have been introduced, including higher minimum salary thresholds and stricter educational and experience criteria.

For initial applications, applicants must submit an employment contract that specifies the required monthly salary and is signed by both the local employer and the foreign employee. A withholding tax document (PND1) from the last three months showing the applicant’s name and the monthly salary must be submitted for renewal applications.
