Key Points

  • Canada announced that it would issue free replacement documents for individuals directly impacted by the wildfires in the country

Overview

The government of Canada announced that it would issue free replacement documents for individuals directly impacted by the wildfires in the country. These documents include permanent resident and temporary resident cards, Canadian citizenship certificates, Canadian passports, and other travel documents.

In addition, international studies, temporary foreign workers, and other visitors who have been directly affected by the wildfires and whose status will expire by September 30, 2023, will also be eligible to apply, restore or extend their status in Canada free of charge.

What are the Changes?

The Canadian government would issue free replacement immigration documents if previous documents were destroyed or damaged due to the current wildfires in the country. According to the government announcement, this will allow temporary workers to extend their status until the workplace opens and enable international students to extend their study permits if classes are delayed or canceled.
