Key Points

  • Japan announced that VFS Global will take over the processing of eVisas for nationals of the United Arab Emirates

Overview

The government of Japan announced that VFS Global, a third-party visa processing service, will process eVisas for United Arab Emirates (UAE) nationals beginning August 1, 2024. The Consulate-General office of Japan in Dubai will only accept visa applications if they are diplomatic or official visitor applications.

This new arrangement with VFS Global for processing eVisas for UAE nationals marks a significant step in Japan’s efforts to streamline visa procedures and enhance accessibility for travelers. Effective August 1, 2024, this change allows most UAE citizens to conveniently apply for visas online, reducing the need for in-person visits to the Consulate-General office in Dubai. Japan prioritizes efficiency and modernizes its visa services by limiting in-person applications to diplomatic or official visitors. This development is expected to facilitate smoother travel experiences for UAE nationals, encouraging more tourism and business exchanges between the two nations.
