Key Points
- South Africa introduced temporary extensions of stay for visa holders with applications currently pending
Overview
The government of South Africa will introduce temporary extensions to allow the government additional time to process visa applications, waiver applications, and appeal applications currently in backlog.
As a result, foreign nationals with applications pending as of November 30, 2023, will be granted an extension until June 30, 2024.
Alternatively, applicants will have the option to abandon their current application, depart and re-enter the country. However, visa-required nationals will be required to apply for a visa before seeking re-entry into the country.
Short-term visa holders who applied for a visa renewal by November 30, 2023, and who have yet to receive a visa renewal outcome by February 24, 2024, are required to depart by February 29, 2024.
