Overview

The government of Uganda updated its current e-passports to a polycarbonate e-passport type on March 31, 2023. The new e-passport is intended to be more suitable for use at e-gate entry points and other self-clearance points when traveling.

According to the government, the passport cost will remain unchanged at Shs 250,000. Generally, applications are expected to be processed within three to 14 working days.

What are the Changes?

The government of Uganda launched a new e-passport type on March 31, 2023. According to the government announcement, this new passport type contains enhanced security features and conforms with the standards of other similar documents in various countries across the globe.

Looking Ahead

Old e-passport types will remain valid until their original expiration date. After their e-passport expires, holders can apply for an upgraded e-passport type. Continue to check the government of Uganda’s website for the latest updates and information.
