The Latest Requirements for Physical Immigration Documents and eVisas
The UK government has updated its guidance regarding physical immigration documents transitioning to eVisas. Here’s what to expect:
- Holders of a Biometric Residence Permit (BRP) expiring on December 31, 2024, will be contacted by UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI) to create a UKVI account and access their eVisa before their BRP expires
- Those already contacted should follow UKVI’s instructions to create their account
- Those not yet contacted can create their account and access their eVisa later in 2024
- Individuals with permission to stay in the UK can use the view and prove service to access their eVisa once their UKVI account is created
- Those with indefinite leave to enter or remain should apply for a ‘No Time Limit’ (NTL) BRP to prove their rights. Once obtained, they can create a UKVI account to access their eVisa
- Individuals with a Biometric Residence Card (BRC) under the EU Settlement Scheme already have an eVisa and need no further action. They should carry their BRC when traveling internationally
- Those with a BRC but no status under the EU Settlement Scheme or other immigration leave should apply for immigration status promptly and avoid international travel until obtaining proof of their status
