Overview
US Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) has announced an extended validity period for Form I-693, Report of Medical Examination and Vaccination Record due to processing delays caused by COVID-19.
What are the Changes?
Form I-693 will now have a validity period of four years. Previously, the form had a two-year validity period. The extension applies to all forms filed, provided they meet all other criteria for validity. USCIS considers Form I-693 to be valid if the civil surgeon has signed the form within 60 days of the applicant submitting Form I-485, Application to Register Permanent Residence or Adjust Status, USCIS has temporarily extended the validity of Form I-693 due to COVID-19-related application processing delays and applicants’ inability to complete their mandatory immigration examination.
Looking Ahead
Individuals who are applying for a Green Card should file Form I-693, Report of Medical Examination and Vaccination Record with their Form I-485, Application to Register Permanent Residence or Adjust Status. Filing the documents simultaneously will reduce the agency’s need to issue a Request for Evidence (RFE), and it may help avoid adjudication delays.
