The government of Romania introduced several changes to its EU Blue Card regulations on March 8, 2024. These changes were made to better align the country’s blue card policy with the greater EU and include the following measures:

  • The maximum period of stay for EU Blue Card permit holders is increasing to up to three years
  • Reducing the EU Blue Card requirement for some applicants so that they can qualify based on their work experience alone
  • Expanding eligibility for applicants, bringing family members to the country, and starting a business
  • Expanding the overall length of work contracts
