Overview
The government of the United Kingdom’s (UK) Migration Advisory Committee (MAC) introduced several recommendations for the country’s Shortage Occupation List (SOL). SOL is used as a measure for allocating the number of work permits issued in the UK. These recommendations include:
- Adding eight additional occupations to the UK-wide SOL and two additional occupations to the Scotland-only SOL
- Ensuring that SOL occupations receive a discount on the minimum income threshold of £26,200
- Ensuring that care workers and senior care workers remain on the SOL
- Renaming SOL to the Immigration Salary Discount List (ISDL) to reflect its function in the immigration system
- Potential to abolish SOL
Ultimately, the UK government will review the proposed measures
