Canada will extend measures granted under the Temporary Foreign Worker Program until October 30, 2023

Overview

The government of Canada will extend temporary measures introduced to the Temporary Foreign Worker Program (TFWP) that were initially introduced during the COVID-19 pandemic. These measures include:

  • Employers in seven sectors, including accommodation and food services, construction, and food manufacturing, can now hire up to 30% of their workforce through the TFWP for low-paying jobs due to labor shortages
  • Keeping the Labour Market Impact Assessments (LMIA) validity period at up to 18 months
  • Maintaining the maximum duration of employment for low-wage positions for up to two years

What are the Changes?

The government of Canada extended temporary measures under the TFWP until October 30, 2023. The government extended measures under the program to provide greater flexibility to employers and workers in Canada.
