The government of Canada introduced amendments to its permanent residence program for foreign nationals working in the Greater Toronto Area (GTA) construction sector. The following changes will take place as a result:

  • The number of foreign nationals supported through the program will expand to 1,000 allotted slots.
  • Applicants will be permitted to apply for permanent residence under the program until January 2, 2024. The program will also include spouses, partners, and dependent children in the principal applicant’s application.
  • Potential applicants will be permitted to submit a form of interest to the Canadian Labor Congress, which determines eligibility for the program.
