The Burgh Quay Registration Office has reopened with new protocols for immigration registration renewals. The changes apply to the Burgh Quay Office and local Registration Offices at Garda Stations around the country.

What are the Changes?

Individuals no longer have to leave their passport at a Registration Office during the renewal application process. Instead, they can keep their passport to use for other necessary purposes in order to expedite the application renewal process. Individuals may use their Irish Residence Permit (IRP) card to show that they are legally registered in the country. An IRP card will grant individuals access to government services that they are entitled to.

What Should Employers and Applicants Know?

Applicants who live in the Dublin area should submit their renewal application electronically. Supporting documentation can also be uploaded online. Applicants must scan and upload the passport page with their personal information in lieu of presenting their physical passport.

People who live outside the Dublin area must make an appointment to renew their application at their local Registration Office. They should bring their passport to the appointment to verify their identity, but the passport will not be stamped. Once the application has been processed, an Immigration Officer will provide details on receiving an IRP card.

First-time applicants should contact the Burgh Quay Registration Office or their local registration office to request an appointment. Individuals who are applying with a new passport need to make an appointment to have their passport stamped and to provide biometrics. Appointments should be requested via email.
