Overview

The Government of Japan recently added China to its list of countries that can use a Business Track and Residence Track to enter and exit the country.

What are the Changes?

Chinese travelers may now use the Business Track and Residence Track to enter and exit Japan. The Business Track enables travelers to enter and exit Japan for short-term business purposes. The track allows business travelers to conduct certain business activities during the mandatory 14-day quarantine period that accompanies travel to Japan. Business travelers may also be subject to additional quarantine measures.

The Residence Track is an entry and exit process designed for long-term residents. Travelers from China are also subject to a 14-day quarantine upon arrival. Travelers who enter through the Residence Track must remain in their homes or a designated location for two weeks following arrival.

Along with China, the Residence Track includes travelers from Brunei, Laos, Cambodia, Malaysia, Singapore, Myanmar, Taiwan, Thailand, and Vietnam. The Business Track is available for travelers from South Korea, Vietnam, and Singapore.

What Should Employers and Applicants Know?

Entry and exit requirements vary by framework and country of origin or destination.
